John Canemaker is a veteran animator, animation historian, and lecturer, perhaps best known for his many books about the Disney studio, including Walt Disney's Nine Old Men and the Art of Animation.

Early in his career, Canemaker worked as a freelance animator on many Sesame Street animated segments, under different producers and directors. For Derek Lamb, he animated the "Mad Goat Song." For Bruce Cayard, Canemaker animated "Scary Thing" and "Jungle Room" from 1974, and a slew of segments from 1980: "Me and My M," "Wash Your Hands," "Needle and Thread," "Sneeze," and "Hummingbird."

Canemaker also animated segments for Bob Keeshan's Captain Kangaroo and Paul Reubens' Pee-Wee's Playhouse. In 2006, he received the Academy Award for Best Animated Short, for his autobiographical film The Moon and the Son.
